Adult Swim's Leading Fresh Series of 2025 Secures a Substantial Extension for Two More Seasons.
In October of last year, Adult Swim welcomed back its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. However, not long after, the channel launched a completely new animated series with a distinctly unique feel. Haha, You Clowns proved to be heartwarming and calm, reminiscent of a animated take of a contemplative talk show. In an era often defined by bleakness, this show's earnestness found an audience and turned it into a breakout hit.
A Major Commitment
On December 18th, Adult Swim made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for a further two seasons. This gives showrunner Joe Cappa ample opportunity to further explore the story of the Campbell family. The series centers on three well-mannered teenage brothers whose primary trait is their profound affection for their single father, with Cappa voicing for all four main characters.
"My deepest thanks go to the fans of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and spread the word," said Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for seasons to come."
Executive Acclaim
Accompanying the news praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "radically heartfelt and uniquely eerie." He shouted out the fans who embraced the show and advocated for its distinctly quirky sensibility.
"All of you got behind this new show, praised it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Comforting Counterpoint
When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a gentle counterpart" to other adult animated fare. It offers something unexpectedly cozy about observing this endearing family go about their daily lives.
In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa expressed his desire to help comedy break out of its prevailing layer of irony. He linked this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.
“There's this level of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” explained Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we need to laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”
What Comes Next
Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa has the opportunity to help usher in that very evolution. Or at the very least, the renewal ensures audiences a little more time to experience the warm glow of the unique Campbell clan.
The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. The entire series is available for streaming on HBO Max.
