McLaren Formula 1 bosses Brown and Stella attributed competitors for the incident between Piastri and Lando Norris at the beginning of the US GP sprint event.

Piastri, leading his teammate in the standings by twenty-two points, made contact with his team-mate after making contact with Sauber's Hulkenberg.

The collision took both McLaren drivers out of the race, along with Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso, who was on the inner side of Hulkenberg.

McLaren Leaders Express Disappointment Over Incident

Zak Brown, the team's chief executive officer, stated to broadcasters that some of the driving at the start was "amateur hour", remarking: "Obviously Hulkenberg drove into Oscar and he had no reason being where he was."

McLaren F1 team principal Stella stated: "The reaction is that we are displeased that we were denied the possibility to compete."

"It is unexpected that some racers with a lot of experience don't act with appropriate caution. Go to the first corner, make sure you avoid harming other drivers and carry on."

McLaren suggested that the team principal was pointing to both the Sauber driver and the Aston Martin driver.

Contrasting Views on the Incident

However, former champion Hill, providing analysis for a sports broadcast, said he believed the Australian had not shown enough awareness of the dangers of the opening turn of an F1 race when he decided to move inside to try to overtake Norris.

The Australian had a stronger launch than Norris and initially competed on the outside on the uphill approach to the turn.

However he then moved inside in an effort to get a advantage on his teammate on the way out, only to collide with Hulkenberg.

Racer Comments After the Incident

The McLaren driver said: "Not ideal but I did not see what happened, I attempted to move inside on Lando and we were both quite distant from the corner apex and then were struck and it propelled me into Lando. Unfortunate."

Norris commented: "I just was struck, right? I did nothing wrong. Further back events unfolded and I just was unfortunate and was struck because of it. I am unsure. I need to review a bit more thoroughly. It's more people further back just being a bit reckless and we are the consequence of that."

The Aston Martin driver said: "At one point I believed I was in the correct position on the inside, but some cars came very quickly from the outer side changing direction and then I was there in the center."

Hulkenberg, who had qualified a season-best fourth place, said: "Major disappointment. All the good work from yesterday in the trash. Just chaotic."

"Oscar steered inward pretty aggressively trying to get the undercut and exit of the first corner but I can't just disappear."

"I had Alonso challenge on the inside and I was unable to see him any more. I aimed to leave space for him and then Oscar turned in and the collision was unavoidable."

Post-Crash and Team Response

The team will analyze the incident with their drivers but only after the race weekend. Both vehicles needed extensive work before grand prix qualifying at 22:00 BST on Saturday.

The team principal said: "In general disappointed but we take it on the chin, we are now concentrating on repairing the vehicles, there is a lot to do and then we will resume the event from there."

"Our team holds a strong position from our performance point of view so I trust we have the possibility to race, compete fairly and capitalise on our performance."

"The points are the most important thing, I prefer not to talk about mal-intent, just caution. A little more care would be good for everyone."

Standings Impact

The sprint event was won by Red Bull's Max Verstappen, who closed in on both McLaren drivers in the standings - he is now fifty-five points behind the Australian and thirty-three behind of the Briton.

Stella said: "The implication is what the maths show - we lost eight championship points with both racers, but we concentrate on ourselves. We have a highly capable car and two skilled racers. We anticipate just some standard competition."

Verstappen said he was taking the title race one event at a time.
