"It's been a fantastic night for golf," McIlroy declared. "Our game was recognized in such a significant way, with the team winning and then with my award. It's a big night for golf, and hopefully we can use that."

"As long as they halt the flow of so many goals on their own pitch," McIlroy responded with a laugh. "They're getting better. There's a little bit of hope around."
