The young player, who also had his club debut in the play-off round a few weeks prior with a substitute appearance at Sporting Lisbon, then assisted the Madrid side overcome the English champions in Tuesday's return to confirm a last eight place.

Aged 18 years and 226 days, Pitarch became the club's most youthful starter to begin two matches in the Champions League's latter rounds, surpassing star Vini Jr's previous mark by a week and a half.

Rapid Ascent From The Academy

He signed for Madrid from Leganes in 2023, having formerly spent time at Atletico Madrid and Getafe's youth teams, and starting out for the Juvenil C team, where he rapidly created a strong impression.

Pitarch progressed to the reserve side and it was in a friendly match in which they faced the senior squad, then coached by Arbeloa, where the teenager is said to have drawn the eye of the current Real boss, who replaced Xabi Alonso in the new year.

Spanish media would later describe the moment as "an instant connection," noting Pitarch excelled not only for his technical ability, but for the vitality, character and determination he brought to the team.

'His Best Attribute Remains His Personality'

During the pre-season of 2025, ex-manager Xabi Alonso invited the youngster to practice with the senior squad and gave him playing time during the warm-up matches.

However, it was Arbeloa's appointment that became the defining moment in his career as he was introduced as a second-half replacement in both ties against the Portuguese side that led to the clash with Manchester City.

"I've dreamed of this each night when sleeping, the first day I started playing football, every day you go to train and each day you have a game," stated the player following his debut.

"I've just fulfilled my ambition with the greatest club in the world and in the top tournament."

Given a starting debut in La Liga against Getafe - where he was for four years after arriving from Atleti in 2018 - he has retained his place for the following four as fitness issues to Jude Bellingham and Ceballos created an opening.

The teenager has taken it with performances that have belied his age and inexperience.

"He's a extremely fast footballer, and you can observe what he's capable of," said the coach. "He's extremely energetic, with excellent endurance, effort and mobility."

Pitarch's mentality has also stood out to his coach.

"His standout trait is his personality," continued Arbeloa. "He constantly demands the possession, and even under pressure, he remains unfazed.

"I realize fans might be astonished to watch him start in a European fixture, but he is selected because I had total trust in him to do what he usually does.

"Thiago will keep receiving opportunities with the first team. It's a pleasure to have a talent like him."

Eyes on the Prize

At present, his attention is on establishing himself in the Madrid lineup and rewarding Arbeloa's faith.
