The Red Devils Poised to Secure German Striker Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Acquisition for United

Schüller, who has six months left on her contract, has been a prolific goal-getter for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. This signing will be seen as a major coup for the Women’s Super League side.

Departure from Bayern has been anticipated since she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the club's fans after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its leading strikers. Per reports, the formalities for the move are now finalised.

Reliable Goal Threat to Boost United's Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s signing should represent a major boost to the team's forward line. Schüller has been highly consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Carrington

The acquisition of Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when the club appear to be building positive momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has brought additional business:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since arriving in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's new deal, a senior figure stated: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having joined from a club in the NWSL, added: “You can sense how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
