Three-time NBA MVP Nikola Jokic suffered a "devastating" injury to his knee while the Denver Nuggets were defeated by a score of 147-123 to the Heat.

The Serbian center was hurt towards the end of the second quarter following an accidental coming together with fellow Nugget Spencer Jones.

The other player stepped on the footwear of the big man, who instantly fell to the floor grabbing his leg.

The star, who tops the league season in rebounds and assists, had 21 points and eight assists in the contest prior to sustaining the injury.

Jokic will undergo an MRI on Tuesday to evaluate the severity of the issue.

"Right away, Jokic understood there was a problem," commented Denver head coach Adelman.

"This happens in professional sports. Any player who is injured, it's tough to see, most notably somebody as important as Jokic. We will know more on Tuesday."

"We will continue together. Obviously, right now, I'm more concerned just about Jokic personally and the letdown of facing an event of that nature."
