Trump Calls Families of Shot Guard Soldiers to the Presidential Residence
President Donald Trump revealed on Sunday that he has invited the family of a Guard member killed last week to attend the White House.
He mentioned that he contacted her parents and they were “devastated”.
Details on the Tragic Shooting
Specialist Sarah Beckstrom, 20, was fatally shot in a violent incident on last Wednesday in Washington DC.
Her comrade, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, continues receiving treatment in critical condition.
Memorials across West Virginia have taken place in their memory.
Presidential Call
The commander-in-chief explained he’s talked about a visit to the White House for the parents of both individuals of the West Virginia Guard.
“I told them: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a difficult moment, come to the White House. We’re going to recognize her,” Trump addressed the press. “And similarly with him, no matter the outcome.”
Public Response
Community members came together over the weekend at a local school in West Virginia to honor Sarah.
Both the soldiers had been fulfilling duties with the military unit as part of the president’s federal initiative to assist policing efforts in the capital.
Paying Tribute to the Soldier
“Sarah was the type of pupil that instructors wished for. She carried herself with quiet strength, a contagious smile and a optimistic attitude that inspired those around her,” Hankins, the principal of Beckstrom’s alma mater, told the media. “She was sweet, compassionate and always willing to assist people.”
Service details for Sarah are yet to be finalized.
Judicial Actions and Policy Revisions
Authorities have indicted a 29-year-old individual from Afghanistan with a charge of first-degree murder and charges of violent assault while carrying a weapon.
The tragedy prompted the government to pause asylum processing and cease granting visas to owners of passports from Afghanistan.
Status of Wolfe
Andrew Wolfe, a resident of the city, enlisted in February 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of Musselman High, as reported by the AP.
He continues to receive treatment and is “battling to survive”, the state’s governor Morrisey stated on Fox News Channel’s The Sunday Briefing.
The state’s top lawyer Bondi told Fox News Sunday that she planned to visit Wolfe’s family.
Legacy of Sarah Beckstrom
Beckstrom, from her hometown, graduated from Webster County High in mid-2023 and began her service not long after, serving as a military police officer with distinction, according to the state guard.
“She had a lot of kindness and she definitely had fortitude,” Morrisey informed the audience at the memorial. “Though her life was cut short, she has created a legacy that’s going to be remembered always.”
